Senija

Senija is an open and active village, with local festivities, a cultural center, sports fields and facilities. Senija has a primary school,  cafés and restaurants, pharmacy, tobacconist, butcher, bus stops etc.
 
It is within cycling distance of the city of Benissa with cinema, theater, museum, large Saturday market and many sports complexes, medical center, supermarkets, hardware stores, secondary school.  Senija is also close to the Jalon Valley, with the villages of Lliber, Jalon(Xaló) and Alcalalì. You can walk straight into the mountains. Or through the fields. For real mountain lovers, you can be in the middle of Pinos or Bernia in 15 minutes. Although you don’t hear anything of the highway, Senija is close to exit 63 of the AP7. Fifteen minutes from the beach.
 
The gastronomy of Senija is based on the Mediterranean cuisine par excellence.
 
Due to the so privileged location in which Senija is found, between the mountain and the sea, its most succulent and traditional dishes start from the products from which the land and the sea provide us.
 
That is why cooking is a healthy, varied and balanced cuisine.
 
Speaking of the cuisine of Senija, it is talking about the history of Senija and retreating in time. Senija has been and is a rich town in the cultivation of grapes, olives, almonds. That’s why its culinary base is the authenticity and quality of its ingredients.
 
 
What to do at Senija:
 
• Visit the parish church of Santa Catalina, built in the 18th century on a mosque antiquity and where the patron saint of the town, the Virgen de los Desamparados, is venerated.
 
• Participate in one of the many activities of its modern House of Culture.
 
• Go to the rural gplace Cometa known for its hermitage and attractive natural surroundings.
 
• You will not lose your natural parameters, such as Les Bassetes, Cova de la Garganta and the fossilized tree, the Alta Creu and its impressive panoramic view, the cultivation sites, the recreational area …
 
• However, take advantage of hiking and cycling practices.
 
• You do not have to forget about its restaurants, and it is possible to taste “puxero amb pilotes”, “coques” or “mullador amb bul I” among other culinary experiences.
 
Senija, a small town in the Marina Alta region (Alicante) with less than 1,000 inhabitants, hides among its streets the so-called Senija Open Museum (MOS), an open-air urban art museum that was born in 2017 thanks to some senior artists with degrees in Fine Arts, who used art as a tourist attraction, filling numerous corners of the town with color.
